Valuable recommendations on how to wash polyester in an automatic machine and by hand

foto12146-1Clothes made of polyester are not only comfortable and functional, but also very practical. They do not require particularly careful maintenance.

They can be washed both in a typewriter and by hand. The main thing is to strictly follow the manufacturer's recommendations and not expose the fabric to high temperatures.

Read about whether and how to wash polyester in a washing machine (in what mode, at what temperature) and by hand, whether the material shrinks after washing in hot water, read the article.

Material features

Polyester is one of the most popular synthetic materials. The fabric is created by weaving the warp and cross threads. Externally, polyester resembles wool, and its characteristics are very similar to cotton.

Polyester synthetic fabric is different:

  • foto12146-2long service life - not subject to abrasion, mechanical stress, stretching;
  • resistance to absorption of dirt and odors - the special structure of the fiber surface does not allow dirt to penetrate and accumulate inside the fabric;
  • low crease - the fibers of the fabric are practically not deformed during washing and drying. They quickly release moisture, forming a flat surface;
  • color fastness - does not fade, tolerates repeated washing well, does not fade under the influence of sunlight;
  • moisture, wind and cold resistance - the material does not get wet and retains heat well;
  • ease of maintenance - if the washing recommendations are followed correctly, polyester clothes retain their beautiful appearance for a long time;
  • immunity to aggressive chemicals, the development of bacteria and microorganisms.

How often?

The special structure of the fibers protects the material from rapid contamination... Therefore, he does not need "preventive" washing.

It is recommended to resort to cleaning things only when necessary, as they become dirty.

If the item is not very dirty or simply has an unpleasant smell, you can freshen it up by soaking it briefly and rinsing it in the conditioner.

Washable 100% polyester items

Polyester can be hand washed or machine washed.

In the washing machine - in what mode, at what temperature?

Before you start washing polyester items, you need to study the information on the tag. If, for a number of reasons, the label is missing or the information on it does not look very legible, it is recommended to adhere to the following rules:

  1. foto12146-3Any polyester products must be washed at a temperature not exceeding 40.

    Fabrics containing polyester fibers are resistant to high temperatures. They can deform, lose color, strength, elasticity and shrink.

  2. To minimize the risk of damage to the fabric, things must be turned on the wrong side before loading into the machine.
  3. The mode of operation of the machine must be chosen the most gentle - "hand" or "delicate" wash.
  4. It is preferable to use detergents in liquid form. Ordinary washing powder does not wash out well from the fibers. After drying, the product may leave stains and streaks on the surface of the fabric.
  5. Sort polyester items before washing. It is not permissible to wash light, colored and dark items at the same time.
  6. Do not wash polyester with chlorine-containing detergents.
  7. An air conditioner must be used. This will preserve the color of the products, give the fabric additional softness and significantly reduce the likelihood of static electricity accumulation in the fibers.
  8. The spinning of the fabric is performed only in a gentle mode.
  9. Drying the fabric in the drum of the washing machine is not allowed.

How to wash polyester in a washing machine, the video will tell you:

Manually

Some polyester items are hand wash only. This information is always indicated by the manufacturer on the label.

Also, as with machine washing, hand wash uses water with a temperature not exceeding 40 degrees. Care rules remain the same:

  • foto12146-4water is collected in a basin and a liquid detergent or powder is dissolved in it;
  • things are soaked for 25-35 minutes;
  • after soaking, the product is washed with gentle movements. Strongly rubbing or squeezing the fabric should not be in order to avoid its deformation;
  • after the end of the washing process, rinse the cleaned thing well in a large amount of water;
  • rinse with conditioner;
  • wring out things by lightly squeezing the fabric. Small items can be simply hung on a hanger and allowed to drain off by itself.

Nuances for various wardrobe items

Polyester is a versatile material used for the manufacture of various types of products.

However, not all items made with polyester fibers behave the same when washed.

Coat

Such a large product is best washed in a washing machine (unless otherwise specified by the manufacturer) in a delicate wash cycle. In this case, a liquid detergent is used that matches the color type of the fabric and a liquid rinse aid. The optimum water temperature is 30.

foto12146-5To completely eliminate the "powder" use an additional rinse modethat allows washing the fibers well. In this case, you need to ensure that the number of spinning revolutions is minimal, in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations.

When washing by hand, the product is simply soaked in the detergent and then rinsed well. Synthetic fibers practically do not accumulate dirt, so there is no need to rub the thing too much. Light squeezing movements will be enough.

Rinse with plenty of water... After washing, the coat is gently straightened, water is slightly "driven" from it by gentle pressing on the fabric and hung on a hanger.

Jacket

The grooming process is similar to washing a coat. Before plunging into the drum of the machine, the jacket must be turned out to the wrong side, having unfastened all decorative elements from it.

Backpack

Small size of the product allows for both hand and machine wash... All decorative elements are removed from the backpack before placing in the drum of the machine or by hand soaking.

For automatic washing, use a delicate mode with a temperature of 30-40. Spinning is not necessary when washing the backpack, it can lead to loss of shape of the product.

For hand wash, the backpack is soaked in warm water with soap or detergent solution. Remove dirt with a soft brush or sponge. Allow the water to drain after rinsing thoroughly. Spinning is contraindicated for this type of product.

Blanket

The blanket can be washed both in a machine with a capacity of up to 5 kg, and by hand... In this case, only liquid detergents are used.

foto12146-6For machine washing, a low temperature of 30-400 is set and a gentle, delicate cycle. Spinning is performed at low speed.

Hand wash involves soaking for 15-30 minutes in liquid detergent or powder well dissolved in water.

The fabric is cleaned with a soft sponge, which prevents damage to the fiber surface... Rinsing is carried out in several stages.

The clean product is dried horizontally on a smooth surface, alternately changing sides to dry the blanket evenly.

When washing items with polyester filling in the washing machine it is recommended to place several tennis balls in the drum... This will prevent the material from piling and clumping.

Thermal underwear

In order for thermal underwear to retain its quality characteristics, both hand and machine wash are performed in a delicate mode at a water temperature of no higher than 40. Before putting them into the drum of the washing machine or soaking, things must be turned inside out.

Dry cleaning, use of chlorine-containing detergents, solvents or stain removers for maintenance is contraindicated with polyester thermal underwear.

Spinning is carried out in a gentle mode... After thorough rinsing, the products are lightly squeezed out, but not twisted, and dried away from heat sources and direct sunlight.

Curtains

foto12146-7Polyester curtains are easily cleaned of accumulated dust. Washing them is simple, both by hand and in a typewriter.

For hand washing, a mild soap solution or a small amount of powder will suffice. The machine can be washed without adding detergents.

In order to avoid the appearance of creases on the fabric, after a thorough rinsing, the curtains are hung, allow the fabric to drain. If necessary, the curtains are ironed at a minimum temperature through an additional layer of fabric.

How to dry?

A feature of polyester is the ability of fibers to quickly get rid of moisture. Such material dries very quickly, especially in the fresh air.

Direct sunlight can damage and wear out fabric fibers quickly. Therefore, when drying polyester items outdoors, place them in a shaded area.

With natural drying, the product is simply laid out on a flat surface or hung on a hanger... You don't need to wring out things. Better to just let the water drain.

As an additional desiccant for small items, you can use a terry towel to wrap the garment around and squeeze lightly.

Wet products must not be dried on batteries, radiators or any other heating device. This is fraught with the appearance of stains, creases and deterioration of the wear resistance of the fabric.

Can I iron?

In the vast majority of cases, no. Under the right drying conditions, the fabric dries without wrinkling. If necessary, iron items made of polyester through an additional layer of fabric, setting the lowest possible temperature.

Does it shrink after being treated in hot water?

With proper care, polyester items will not shrink. Such a nuisance can only happen in the following cases:

  • washing fabrics at high temperatures;
  • drying things in a dryer or on heating devices;
  • ironing with a very hot iron.

Contraindications for care

In order for the fabric to retain its external attractiveness and strength for a long time, it is prohibited:

  • foto12146-9boil or wash clothes at a temperature of more than 40. High temperature destroys the structure of the fibers and deforms the fabric;
  • treat products with harsh detergents containing chlorine, various bleaches or stain removers;
  • twist by hand or use high spin speeds for machine wash;
  • dry in the sun, hot batteries or other heat sources.

How to remove stains?

Small surface contamination can be removed with:

  1. Soap solution... The composition is applied to the place of pollution and lightly wipe the fabric with a soft sponge, after which it is washed in warm water;
  2. Salt. The stain is covered with salt and left for 20-30 minutes. After cleaning, the thing is washed and treated with a rinse aid;
  3. Boric acid... To remove stains, a 10% solution is used, which is applied in a small amount to a tissue site at the site of contamination;
  4. Citric acid... The cleaning solution is prepared in proportions - 1 tsp. citric acid in 200 ml of water. With the resulting composition, wipe the dirty area and rinse the thing in cool water before washing.
The special structure of the fibers of the fabric makes it not prone to penetration of dirt, which makes difficult to remove stains on this type of material a rare exception.

Conclusion

Polyester is not only very practical and beautiful, but also easy to care for. Products made from this synthetic fiber are distinguished by their excellent appearance and long service life.

The main thing is to follow the rules of fabric care... The use of the washing and drying temperature regime indicated by the manufacturer will allow you to enjoy your favorite clothes, linen or accessories for more than one year.
